4 Places To Go When Overwhelmed

Sometimes we can become so overwhelmed with life that we feel the need to escape. The only problem with that is having the means to escape. Often times we feel like we cannot escape because we don’t have the money to go on a vacation. The good thing about escaping for a moment is that it is just calming your mind and body. When you need a moment of silence, you can find it somewhere that you never thought of. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to find peace of mind.

These are 4 places to go when feeling overwhelmed:

  1. The Shower –This may sound really weird, but the shower is a good place to take the time to relax and breathe. Being overwhelmed and consumed with our daily troubles can be fleeting feelings, IF we allow them to be. What is happening in a moment can be gone if we release it. The shower is a great place to CRY IT ALL OUT. Some women may feel like crying is a sign of weakness, but it is not. Crying is a release of bottled emotions. Use whatever shower time you have as a moment to relax, relate, and release. Word to A Different World. Relax your mind. Release your emotions. Relate to the situation in a more healthy and positive manner.

  2. School –As annoying as school can be, it a place where if we allow it to be, a place of escape. Throwing yourself into your books and homework will LITERALLY leave no time for anything else. Being an active student, like getting involved in clubs, sports, and other after school programs is a healthy escape. Sometimes to escape, we need to find our joy somewhere else. School seems like an unlikely place, but it can be the best place. Home life can be overwhelming, spending eight hours at school can be a nice escape. Imagine. Learning can seem scary and daunting but it’s also a place where friends are and fun activities. If you engage in all that school has to offer, I promise you will find peace of mind. Especially, if you are someone who is a natural social butterfly. Getting involved can be really rewarding. You can meet new people and find new opportunities that can have a positive outcome in your life.

  3. Library— Who goes to a library? Not many people and that’s the beauty of it. There are libraries everywhere that are full of small little corners for someone looking for peace and quiet. You can use a library as a place for rest and relaxation. In college, I loved going to the library. Whether with friend or by myself I found so much peace in being in a fairly empty building that is always quiet. The best thing about the library is that you don’t just have to read a book. You can bring a notebook and sit down and draw, write, or scribble. It doesn’t matter. It’s the ultimate place to escape. You can find great books of magically places that can inspire you and make you realize that there is something bigger and better out there. During my overwhelming college days, the library was my place of peace.

  4. The Park –Going to the park can so therapeutic. Breathing in fresh air can be very refreshing. Take a seat on the grass and take a few deep breaths. Allow your emotions to run freely. There is something so peaceful about nature. It also takes you out of an overwhelming environment that was causing you to feel stressed out. Being in the park can be just the kind of escape that you need. When feeling overwhelmed there is something incredible about being in an atmosphere that is steady, calm, and at ease. Even if you live in a busy city, if you find your local park, I can promise you will find a certain stillness that will bring you much joy. Taking a slow walk among trees, birds, and fresh air will relax your mind in an amazing way.

My hopes are that you find ways to relate to your environment around you in a healthy manner. Although, vacations are AMAZING sometimes they aren’t our immediate reality. Thankfully, we can find small moments to take some deep breaths and let it all go.
