After a long day, nothing sounds better than curling up in bed and getting a good night’s rest. But, sometimes sleep never comes to us. Here are some tips and tricks to help you fall asleep faster.
1. Turn Off Your Electronics
Your devices are keeping you up at night. Turn them off. Try turning them off an hour or two before you start to get ready for bed. Your phone keeps your mind engaged. It is really tempting to scroll on social media, but that keeps your mind awake. Studies show that your devices emit a blue light that suppresses melatonin. (Pro Tip: place your phone on the charger somewhere that is out of reach) We always reach to grab our phone when it is right next to us. Try moving it somewhere farther away.
2. Use Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy works with your sense of smell and through skin absorption. You can use products like diffusers, room mist, body oils, inhalers, and facial steamers to create an aromatic environment. Feel free to use them by themselves or in combination. Different essential oils can help stimulate the senses and promote a good night of sleep.
- Lavender
- Chamomile
- Ylang – Ylang
- Jasmine
You can mist these essential oils and mist them on your pillow. You can also dab a small diluted amount directly to your wrist for skin absorption and to inhale. Our favorite way to use essential oils is to use a room spray or a diffuser. As a night-time routine, you can get into the habit of turning your diffuser on and turning your devices off.
3. Journal before Bed
Sounds really different, but we have found that when you start to journal before bed you get to slow your mind down. Ever been laying in bed and you just cannot slow down your thoughts? Pick up a journal and write down all your thoughts. Journaling helps to calm your thoughts and put to rest what has been troubling you.
