This came to me in the middle of the night, when I thought about my battle with feeling lonely vs. feeling alone. I think that it can be a very daunting feeling if you aren’t aware of the major differences. Allow me to explain with a brief analogy…
We are all like flowers that have been planted by our higher power. We are dropped into the soil and unbeknownst to us, we are growing to be something beautiful. While in the dirt are eyes are closed and we are growing and shifting. It is so uncomfortable because we can’t tell if anyone else around us is going through the same thing. All we know is that it’s dark and sometimes it’s raining down on us. Never realizing that same rain is helping us grow. As we get rooted, some of us succumb to the darkness and rain. Others keep fighting, just on faith alone that something has to come of this. Eventually, we break ground and start to sprout. Our eyes are closed, but we can feel the warmth. We can feel the sun. As we grow, we become taller and stronger. Soon, we have a little bulb and we start to get glances of better days. It gets lonely in this process. Never knowing if anyone else is struggling to grow like you. Never knowing if anyone else feels the rain like you. Unfortunately, some of us give up at this point because it just feels like it’s taking too long. It feels like at this point, it should stop raining down on us. Especially since you are getting glances of the sun. But, for the rest of us we just continue on. And after all that growing, you blossom and finally get to open your eyes. Right there in all that dirt, a beautiful flower grows. And, as you look around you see that it wasn’t just you, it was a bunch of flowers just like you. Fighting to feel the sun. Fighting to be kissed by the wind. Fighting to smile up to the sky. You weren’t alone after all, even when you felt lonely.
It is important to blossom where you are planted. Don’t give up. Because even after you blossom the rain will still come. It’s beneficial for you. To keep your roots strong. To keep you healthy. Don’t give up in the mist of the storm.
Winter will come and you will go back in the dirt. However, you must know you are strong enough to do it all again. To take the rain, take the growing pains and those feelings of being isolated because you are deeply rooted and strong. Don’t worry about what it looks like for someone else because they may blossom in March but go back to the dirt in September and you may blossom in May and go back in October. It doesn’t matter. Just blossom when you are planted.
